1st WEYC Quiz Night Benefits BVI KATS

The Loyal West End Yacht Club not only puts on seven annual
Regattas each year but actively supports KATS (Kids and the Sea) as well.
To show their support for the BVI student’s
sailing program the club kicked off the sailing season with a great, fun 1st
Quiz Night with all monies made going to KATS.
The event was the brainchild of organizer Tara Jeanne McClure and James
Bridgewater, former commodore of the Royal BVI Yacht Club and an active member
of the WEYC.On Tortola both of our
yacht clubs support each other, which is why we have great sailing camaraderie.

October 19th was the date with close to 100
supporters gathering at the Jolly Roger Restaurant & Bar, home of the West
End Yacht Club.Tara was dressed in
spangles – representing Vanna White of “Wheel of Fortune” while James gave out
the 25 questions, some with a nautical flavor, with the assistance of his son
Thomas, a member of the KATS program.

Ironically the winning team, Krazy Kats, was comprised of not only the WEYC Commodore, Dave
Cooper, but Nels & Linda Hagenson.
Nels is the head of BVI KATS and Linda is President of the Tortola
Ladies Club, which donated some $1,500 to KATS during the 2004 year.
Beating out ten other teams in a “Sudden
Death Play-off” Krazy Kats won a
bottle of champagne, contributed by Lou Schwartz, owner of the JR, and had no
delay in toasting to their teammates as well as KATS,

What a way to start the season.
Way to go team!!

The WEYC invites all cruisers in the Caribbean to
participate in their 2005 scheduled events.
All regattas are posted in All At
Sea
so sail into Soper’s Hole and enter the fun –
You’ll be glad you did.
